Lillies bloom in a spring woodland rhododendron blossom Description of image
Beautiful spring lillies bloom underneath the nearlyleafless forest canopy. The large amount of sunlight that reaches theforest floor allows  early blossoms tto bloom. This rhododendron bloosom reminds us that trees andshrubs bloom too. Rhododendron are native to North America. The Spring Beauty is one of the first low growingflowers to bloom in the spring. The come in all white blossomsalso.

Dogwoods are showy blossoms that bloom overhead inspring. How come we focus on flower blooms and forget trees?  A Spring Peeper rests on a leaf. These frogshave a large "X" on their backs. A large chorus of these frogs singingsounds like sleigh bells.  Eastern Box Turtles are dry land turtles.They can "box" themsleves in by closing their hnged lowershell.

A tiny brightly colored fungi peaks out from the dampfroest leaf litter.  An American Robin is a harbinger of spring. But here inthe Philadelphia are, they have started to stay through January withthe warmer temperatures.  Spring is nesting season. It is best to leave birdsalone during this important time.
